When the user depresses the actuator, the spring returns the piston and actuator to their up positions, and the ball returns to its resting position, sealing the chamber and preventing the liquid product from flowing back into the bottle. “Priming” refers to the first cycle. When the user presses the actuator again, the product in the chamber is taken from the chamber, via the stem and actuator, and dispensed out of the pump and onto the your hand.
